'Lineated shrike' [Fasciated antshrike]

Richard Polydore Nodder

Ornithological study of the Fasciated antshrike Cymbilaimus lineatus, native to South America. Side view, posed on a tree branch. Plate 6 from The zoological miscellany; being a description of new, or interesting animals, by William Elford Leach, volume 1 (London, 1815). The author describes the bird within the text: "This elegant bird, which is figured from Mr. Macleay's collection, inhabits Berbice...[Guyana]." The plate is inscribed: "Drawn Engraved & Published by R. P. Nodder Feby.1814." William Elford Leach (1790-1836) British naturalist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1816.
