Edward Spangler, member of the Lincoln assassination plot
Edward Spangler, member of the Lincoln assassination plot, 1865 (1955). Spangler (1825-1875) worked at Ford's Theatre in Washington DC at the time when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated there by John Wilkes Booth. Spangler was involved in preparing the box that Lincoln used on the night of his death, and had been overheard speaking negatively of the president. He was arrested and tried for having been an accomplice of Booth's and was sentenced to six years in prison. He was pardoned by President Andrew Johnson in 1869 and released.
