The Anglo-Dutch army of the Wellington fought against the left wing of the French Armee du Nord under Marshal Ney at Quatre Bras, a strategically important crossroads. The outcome was a draw , but gave the French a strategic advantage in that Wellington was unable to assist Blucher's Pussian Army, who were being defeated by the main body of the French army at the Battle of Ligny. Both Wellington and Blucher wer forced to withdraw northwards. From The Martial Achievements of Great Britain and her Allies from 1799 to 1815 by James Jenkins, 1815.
