Illustration of a brain showing extreme cerebral congestion. The author notes: 'The brain here represented was taken from an old man, who died of fever, and whose lungs were in a most marked emphysematous state throughout.' Fig.1 illustrates the upper part of the cerebrum. Bright notes; '...the convolutions still covered by the arachnoid and pia mater are of a dark carbonaceous colour...' Fig.2 illustrates the upper part of the hemispheres and turned upwards to show the internal appearance of the brain.
