Maria Eleonora Hochecker

Figures 5-6 upper and lower surfaces of Papilio sesonia [the Southern dogface, Zerene cesonia, a native of North and South America and the Caribbean]. The insects shown were part of the collection of Johann Christian Gerning (1745-1802). The accompanying text states that 'under the immediate care and direction of this great collector, the original drawings of this publication were executed by the celebrated Mademoiselle Maria Hockecker...'
