Nelson Piquet at the British Grand Prix, Silverstone, Northamptonshire, 1983. Piquet finished second. After making his Formula 1 debut in 1978, Brazilian driver Nelson Piquet enjoyed a long and successful career, the highlights being 23 Grand Prix victories and World Drivers' Championships in 1981 and 1983 with Brabham, and in 1987 driving for Williams. After retiring from Formula 1 he badly injured his foot in an accident in practice for the 1992 Indianapolis 500, prompting his retirement from motor racing.
